The Taylor STARS program within the Taylor Family Center for Student Success supports students through all four years of their undergraduate journey with WashU. One piece of the Taylor STARS experience is the Sophomore Soar program. The Sophomore Soar program specifically works to provide leadership development opportunities for sophomore first-generation and/or limited income students.

On Tuesday, October 15, Sophomore Soar officially kicked off its Mentorship Program with a Mentor Match Day event. The event encouraged networking between Taylor STARS and their faculty and staff mentors by creating a welcoming space for building community. After choosing their top three mentor choices from a Mentor Directory, students received an envelope with their official match.

The goal of the Sophomore Soar Mentorship Program is to connect students with faculty and staff members that can support students in strengthening their cultural capital to develop skills beyond what’s needed to be successful in the classroom. Understanding the importance of meaningful engagements develops leadership skills that can translate into becoming competitive candidates for internships, jobs, and leadership positions on and off campus.
