Expanding student support and access
Since 2013, WashU has taken steps to open its doors to a wider socioeconomic diversity of undergraduates. Through a shift to need-blind admissions and initiatives like the WashU Pledge and WashU Rural Scholars Academy, the university has seen a significant increase in the number of first-generation students and Pell Grant eligible students, earning recognition in The Princeton Review’s 2024 report as the No. 1 institution for financial aid. Launching in the fall of 2024, WashU’s introduction of a no-loan financial aid policy will continue to increase access for bright and motivated students who want to build their future here.
As access does not guarantee success, the university is committed to expanding student support beyond the classroom to ensure first-generation or limited-income (FLI) students have the resources and support needed to fully embrace the transformative WashU experience and successfully persevere towards achieving their degree. The generosity of our alumni, parents, and friends is essential to advancing our efforts to be the leader in student support and access to education.
